I’m the Imelda Marcos of WordPress Plugins

September 8th, 2009 Posted in Blogging, Marketing, Tech

sexy_shoesI just realized that I collect WordPress plugins the way some women collect shoes or purses.

Does that mean I’m a Geek? Dang, I think it’s official. I’ve been skirting this issue for a long time. I like shoes and purses, too! Well, not so much purses, but now that I have a fabulous Omnia cell phone, that I loooove, but which is too bulky to just keep in my pocket, now I’m into purses, too.

But 64 plugins on one site!! I don’t use all of them, they sit carefully in their boxes in the closet, I mean, they’re not all active…. ;) That’s my oldest site.

What about you? How many plugins are you using, how many do you have in inactive?  Tell us in the comments below, and tell us your favs!

My excuse is that I’m constantly researching WordPress plugins for use on this blog, several others that I own, and for my clients, and of course, for you my dear readers.  There’s always a new and interesting approach that creative WordPress users are finding that can deal with a need or problem that casual bloggers and probloggers alike have.  Whether it’s a shopping cart, a calendar, surveys, polls, image galleries, and more, WordPress plugins are remarkable.

As you experiment, you’ll start to find the hallmarks of a great plugin, but here are a few quick WP plugin tips:

  1. go for the plugins with very recent updates
  2. choose plugins with great support
  3. lots of downloads, although the download number can be gamed on the official WordPress site
  4. check this blog for reviews
  5. let everyone know which ones you like — and tell us here!!
