Moodle – A Free, Open Source Course Management System for Online Learning.

Wow.

Moodle is a content or course management system created to help educators create effective online learning communities of any size, from one to 200,000 students.

The emphasis is not on style, but function.  Is it possible to use this for a membership site?

Any body using this already?  What do you think of it?  How many people are you teaching?
