Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance.

There are many freak-out moments in WordPress design and maintenance, and “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance.” is one of them.  Never run across this?  Good!  It just happened to me, for the first time in 4 years of heavy WP usage.

Wait on Your WordPress Upgrade

wordpress.orgWe love WordPress.  Totally.  And really believe in the structure and benefits of Open Source programming.  But like any complex undertaking, WordPress upgrades usually need some tweaking, even after hundreds (thousands?) of beta testers have run through a version.  Beta Testers are usually advanced users who really know what they’re doing and have the time, ability, and desire to play around with software, looking for problems and suggesting ways to fix them.  The upside is that they usually know more about how to do this than the regular user.  The downside is that the regular user has neither the time nor patience nor ability nor resources to recover from glitches that power users automatically avoid by using the very best procedures (which regular users generally don’t even know exist), and power users are able to quickly diagnose and recover from pitfalls, should they not have seen them coming.

“My business has doubled and I spend half the time working that I did a year ago because of the work that I did with Honey Bee Buzz Marketing. Heather Cate's business coaching is wonderful; the process itself is more than worth the fees. Her process is totally different than the other people I looked into working with. It's like going to college. You learn to trust yourself, to honor and appreciate yourself and your business. It's not just a simple, thrown-together mechanical experience, it's a process of appreciation and discovery of yourself and your business.”
