Who Stretches You?
A hip hop group contacted me yesterday about doing a website for them. How cool?! What’s the most surprising client or project that’s come your way lately?
WordPress and the web are the perfect threesome marriage for this group –
they’re already doing good job of attacking MySpace and Facebook, they’ve got branding and images going on. Now they need a great site to promote themselves and sell merchandise, tracks, and, as they say, albums. (I think it’s so cool that we’re going back to oldschool terminology). Since they’re comfortable with the web but aren’t designers themselves, a CMS (Content Management System) like WordPress is perfect for them: once the design is set up and the infrastructure installed, they can add gig dates, new tracks, merch, videos, etc. on their own whenever they want. It’s perfect!
WordPress easily works with shopping carts, event calendars, ticket sales, mapping (groupies need to know where your next gig is!), video, MP3s, photo galleries (fans love photos!), even forums or message boards where people can discuss your work.
WordPress is the hottest CMS out there now,
and I’m sure it will stay at the top of the stack — there’s great room for creative latitude, the client/user, once they learn the basics, is free to create, build a following, and make money. There are millions of people using WP now, and because it is OpenSource, meaning anyone can see, use, and change the software, it’s constantly being improved and designed to meet the needs of users.
